Country of Australia – Australian Flag
The Australia Flag was adopted following a design contest in 1901, the same year Australia gained its autonomy from Britain. As a member of the Commonwealth, the Australia flag retains the British Union Jack in it canton. Below the Union Jack is the single seven-pointed Commonwealth Star. The seven points of the star each represent one of the Australian States. In the fly of the flag is the Southern Cross, a star constellation visible year round in Australia.
