The Serapis Flag was a flag used during the Revolutionary War. Captain John Paul
Jones, after losing his ship, captured a British ship (the Serapis). Needing a flag
(but neer having seen the recently adopted US flag), he made his own from what he
remembered from a description in a letter from Benjamin Franklin. The Serapis Flag
was the end result.
